News Brainport is the English-language news portal dedicated to the internationals and global-minded communities in the Brainport region.
Mission
our mission is to bridge the information gap for a diverse demographic, ensuring that everyone who calls this region home stays informed, connected, and engaged. The region is home to about 100,000 internationals. Our roots are in the Brainport region; however, the Netherlands is also our focus, while we keep an eye on international developments. In essence, we provide local, national, and international news that affects the residents of the region.
We believe that keeping residents informed about what’s happening in our region helps bring people closer together. By sharing these stories, we invite everyone to feel involved and connected to the place they live.
A big city is made up of many different worlds or bubbles. These worlds sometimes overlap, but often they don’t. People share the same city, but not always the same experiences. Expats and refugees, immigrant workers and PhD scholars, designers and volunteers, people of various faiths and atheists, politicians and techies, people with homes and people without – all are part of the region.
We shine a light on all these stories. We cover the day’s news, share personal stories about Brainporters, and report on events and conversations that shape life in the city.
In today’s world, especially with the rise of AI, reliable information is under pressure. We’re often caught on a ‘doomscrolling dopamine high,’ numb to the risks of fake news and misleading propaganda. On social media, it’s harder than ever to know what’s trustworthy.
We are committed to being a credible source: reporting accurately, staying neutral, and helping our readers navigate the noise with confidence.
Our target audience
We serve four distinct pillars of the Brainport community:
- International knowledge migrants (Expats): High-tech and corporate professionals and blue-collar workers. Ensuring visibility and information for the international workforce and their families.
- Refugees: Providing essential integration with informational content, local news, and events.
- International students: Connecting the next generation of talent to the region opportunities through curated content.
- Immigrants: Locals who prefer news in English or wish to engage with the international community, such as school students.
Vision
1. Brainport identity: To become a lifeline for news and information for the internationals in the region. We cater to all municipalities in Brainport thus unifying the region actively and passively and ensuring that the nature of content is also focused appropriately.
2. Talent retention: By informing international talent, we are directly aiding retention. If internationals feel informed and at home, they stay longer, which benefits the regional economy. In essence, News Brainport will be a catalyst in retaining talent in the Brainport region, which depends hugely on the talent and his/her family being able to call this region home.
3. Inclusive integration: To move beyond “expats” and “locals” to a single, informed community. We strive to be the bridge that connects, ensuring that even the newest arrival (a refugee or a student) has the tools to navigate and belong.
4. Economic Impact: To enable companies and organisations to reach an international audience and build bridges, thereby supporting a cohesive ecosystem.
5. Civic Participation: A significant challenge for internationals is understanding how to engage in Dutch democracy. News Brainport will help people not only live here but also take part in the local democratic process.

Leadership and heritage
News Brainport is led by Beena Arunraj, who served as Editor-in-Chief of Eindhoven News from 2020 to 2025. Under her leadership, readership grew by 200% from 14,000 readers to 50,000 readers over three years. Following the abrupt closure of Eindhoven News in December 2025, the entire former team transitioned to News Brainport, ensuring that years of expertise, trust, and community roots remain intact. We are thankful to Brainport Development for the use of the name ‘Brainport’. We are now scaling our coverage to encompass the entire regional ecosystem.
