The Van Eerd family’s investment company completed the acquisition of HEMA on Wednesday. This family also owns the Jumbo supermarket chain. In December, their vehicle, Mississippi Ventures, announced its plan to buy the remaining half of HEMA’s shares. The company has now secured all necessary approvals to finalise the deal.
Last month, the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) approved the transaction. However, the Belgian competition authorities and the works council still needed to give their consent. Those final hurdles have now been cleared.
Jumbo and HEMA will continue to operate as separate businesses. HEMA CEO Saskia Egas Reparaz called the takeover a wonderful start to the company’s centenary year. She noted that the deal provides a solid foundation for future growth. Furthermore, the company plans to raise standards through store renovations and product improvements. These changes aim to create an even better experience for customers.
