Train ticket prices for regional operator Arriva in Groningen and Friesland are set to be reduced from 1st March. The company itself deemed a proposed price hike too steep and subsequently reached an agreement with the provincial authorities to lower fares, an Arriva spokesperson confirmed following a report by RTV Noord.
At the start of this year, train fares in the north of the country rose by more than 6 per cent. Depending on the specific journey, the total increase reached nearly 20 per cent in some cases due to the addition of a 2-cent-per-kilometre surcharge. While this mileage surcharge will remain in place, the overall price increase is now being scaled back to approximately 3.5 per cent.
In other provinces where Arriva operates, ticket prices will remain at their current levels.
