Brussels Airport has announced that no passenger flights will depart on 12 March because of a planned national strike. The airport also expects significant disruption to arriving flights throughout the day. Belgian trade unions are organising this day of action to protest against the federal government’s latest social reform measures.
Airport officials decided to cancel departures after consulting with airlines to ensure the safety of passengers and staff. Airlines are currently contacting affected travellers to arrange alternative travel plans. This marks the eighth time since the start of 2025 that industrial action has disrupted air travel in Belgium, even when the strikes do not directly target the aviation sector.
Rail travel will also face severe issues leading up to the main strike day. Belgian railway workers plan a multi-day walkout from Sunday 8 March until Wednesday 11 March, which will result in a significantly reduced train service across the country.
