Dutch companies investing less

Business investments in the Netherlands declined again in December, Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports. Businesses invested 2.6 per cent less in the last month of 2025 compared to the same month a year earlier. The decline follows a 4.8 per cent decrease in investments in November and a 0.7 per cent decrease in October.

Less money was invested than a year earlier, particularly in road transport such as lorries, trailers, and vans, as well as in aircraft. More was invested in passenger cars, buildings, machinery, defence equipment, and infrastructure. The figures are not adjusted for working days. December 2025 had one more working day than December 2024.

Statistics Netherlands (CBS) also publishes its monthly investment radar, which assesses the investment climate. According to this radar, investment conditions were less unfavourable in February than in December. According to the statistics agency, this is mainly due to an increase in industrial capacity utilisation, a larger increase in goods exports, and a less negative assessment of the order book.
