India in talks with the Netherlands over mining of critical minerals

Share

India aims to reduce its dependence on China for critical minerals and is in talks with the Netherlands, Brazil, Canada, and France to jointly extract, process, and recycle essential raw materials, sources told Reuters.

The planned partnerships focus on lithium and rare earth metals. Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney plans to visit India in early March to sign agreements on uranium, energy, minerals, and artificial intelligence.

In January, Germany and India agreed to cooperate on rare earth minerals, forming the basis for India’s new discussions. India has also previously signed agreements on critical minerals with Argentina, Australia, and Japan.

Earlier this month, the United States, the European Union, and Japan took steps toward forming their own alliance on rare earth resources, also aimed at reducing reliance on China.
