Ireland’s data protection watchdog has launched an investigation into X. The move follows reports that Grok, Elon Musk’s AI tool, generated sexually suggestive images, including altered photos that appear to undress people.
The Data Protection Commission (DPC) said on Tuesday that it will examine the alleged creation and publication of non‑consensual intimate or sexualised images on X. These images reportedly involve Europeans, including children. Grok is integrated into X, and the company’s European operations are based in Ireland, making the DPC its lead regulator in the EU.
Authorities in several countries have already initiated inquiries into Grok. Some introducing restrictions or blocking the chatbot entirely due to its ability to create unclothed depictions of individuals.
