KLM flight departs to repatriate Dutch citizens

Share

KLM is operating a repatriation flight on Tuesday evening to return travellers stranded in the Middle East following the outbreak of conflict involving Iran. Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen informed the House of Representatives that 83 Dutch nationals are currently on board the aircraft. Although this specific flight is underway, officials estimate that several thousand Dutch citizens remain stuck throughout the wider region.

The minister confirmed that the government is collaborating closely with KLM to ensure at least a portion of these citizens can return home immediately. While Berendsen declined to specify the departure location due to security protocols, sources indicate the flight is originating from Oman. Furthermore, the minister stated that his department is preparing additional repatriation measures to supplement available commercial services.

Berendsen cautioned stranded individuals against travelling across the region without a coordinated plan, as the primary goal is to ensure people reach aircraft safely. Consequently, he has urged all affected travellers to register with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or their nearest embassy to receive formal assistance. Although some commercial flights have now resumed, the minister noted that the total duration of the conflict remains unpredictable.
