New reporting portal launched for youth discrimination

Share

Children and young people under 18 can now report discrimination through a dedicated platform, Discriminatie Jeugd. This new branch of the national reporting service helps minors ask questions and find support. It operates as part of the existing national discrimination network.

The reporting centre notes that many children face discrimination. These experiences harm their personal development. De Kindertelefoon (The Children’s Helpline) highlights the specific challenges young people face. Children report bullying over their appearance or harassment due to their skin colour. Others face rejection based on their gender identity or sexual orientation.

These incidents cause fear, shame, and sadness. Many children do not know how to respond. Roline de Wilde, director of De Kindertelefoon, believes the new website offers a vital safe space. The platform provides information and professional support.

The service registers these reports separately. This creates a clear national picture of discrimination among youth. Data from the portal will help the government create more effective policies.

The Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations funds the project. The official launch took place at the Utrecht Theatre School. Outgoing Minister Frank Rijkaart attended the event alongside the Children’s Ombudsman and representatives from De Kindertelefoon.

Young people seeking help can contact Discriminatie Jeugd via discriminatie.nl/jeugd
or call the free national helpline on 0800-0880. For immediate support and advice, De Kindertelefoon is available daily from 11:00 to 21:00 on 0800-0432 or through their website at kindertelefoon.nl. This initiative marks a significant step in ensuring that every child in the Netherlands has a voice and a safe place to turn when facing unfair treatment.
