The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) has now received more than one hundred reports concerning recalled baby food. These figures suggest that a growing number of parents believe their children became ill after consuming the products.
Initially, Nestlé launched recalls in dozens of countries, including the Netherlands, due to the potential presence of cereulide. This specific toxin can cause severe vomiting and diarrhoea. Consequently, other major manufacturers such as Danone and Lactalis have also removed infant milk products from store shelves.
According to the NVWA, 125 reports relate specifically to the recalled items, while another 26 reports involve other food products. This total marks a significant increase from previous figures. Therefore, officials are currently conducting several investigations. They are particularly focused on reports of illness linked to food that has not yet been subject to an official recall.
Finally, a spokesperson for the NVWA stated that it is too early to determine the next steps. They noted that any further action will depend entirely on the results of the ongoing investigations.
