An 81-year-old woman from Oosterhout has died after a crash on the A59 motorway near Waalwijk late on Saturday night.
The woman collided head-on with another car while driving on the wrong side of the road, police said. Two people in the other vehicle, a 24-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman from Arnhem, were injured and taken to hospital. The woman who was driving the wrong way died at the scene.
The crash happened shortly after midnight near the Hooipolder junction. Police said the impact caused significant damage and that part of an engine ended block up on the road.
The motorway was closed for several hours and reopened at around 7.30 am on Sunday.
