93 people suffer burns during PSV celebration

Share

Despite a fireworks ban during PSV’s championship celebration in Eindhoven on Tuesday, 93 people sustained burns caused by flares, the municipality reported. According to officials, the injuries were minor first‑degree burns, and no one required hospital treatment.

The municipality had announced strict enforcement of the fireworks ban ahead of the event. Even so, numerous red flares were ignited on the Stadhuisplein. As the players took the stage, several loud bangs were heard throughout the evening. Police confirmed that seventeen people were arrested.

Last year, when PSV also secured the national title, more than sixty people sought emergency care for burn injuries. That spike prompted the municipality to introduce this year’s ban. A municipal spokesperson said the measure did have an effect. “The exact amount of fireworks confiscated at the Markt and Stadhuisplein has not yet been counted, but it concerns several tens of kilograms”.

Overall, the municipality described the day as having gone “generally well”, with no major incidents reported. Officials will now evaluate the approach and consider possible improvements for future celebrations.
