The annual carnival celebrations reached a highlight yesterday as the Great Parade marched through the streets of Rommelgat. The procession route alternates each year: one year it travels from Zeelst to Veldhoven village, and the following year it returns from Veldhoven village to Zeelst. Both the Youth Prince and the Prince of Rommelgat joined the festivities to cheer the crowds.
Bram van Dorsten, 42, serves as this season’s Zijne Doorluchtige Hoogheid, Great Prince of Rommelgat, known formally as Abraham d’n Dorstige. Away from his royal carnival duties, he works for the Municipality of Veldhoven. He also hosts a weekly radio programme on Omroep Veldhoven and produces Radio Rommelgat specifically for the carnival season. Joining him in a leadership role this year is Youth Prince Roan Meijer, a year 8 pupil at Dreef Primary School.

The event kicked off at 1.30 pm and concluded with an award ceremony in the village centre. A variety of carnival associations and local organisations took part in the traditional parade, which remains a cornerstone of the local holiday calendar.
