Tom Berendsen, currently a Member of the European Parliament, will become the Foreign Minister in the upcoming cabinet. Insiders have confirmed his appointment following earlier reports. The 42-year-old from Breda has served in the European Parliament since 2019 and led his party’s list in the 2019 elections. His recent work has focused on industry, energy, and transport.+2
Other CDA appointments include Bart van den Brink, who will serve as Minister of Asylum and Migration. He is also set to serve as deputy prime minister under the intended Prime Minister, Rob Jetten of D66.
Heleen Herbert will join the cabinet as Minister of Economic Affairs. Ms Herbert is currently a director at the construction firm Heijmans, where she has worked for nearly fourteen years. Although seen as an appointment from outside traditional government circles, she has a long history with the CDA. Her previous experience includes evaluating election results and helping to form parliamentary groups.
Mirjam Sterk, a deputy from the Utrecht provincial executive, will become Minister of Long-Term Care, Youth and Sport. Ms Sterk previously spent ten years in the House of Representatives before working in the United States. In Utrecht, her responsibilities included nature and agriculture.
