The Dutch coalition parties are planning to save over 5 billion euros by revising previous commitments to the healthcare deductible. The reduction intended by the former cabinet has been scrapped, and starting next year, the deductible will once again be linked to wage growth and inflation. This adjustment is expected to save the treasury approximately 4 billion euros annually.
Additionally, the deductible is set to increase by 60 euros starting in 2027. This move is projected to contribute a further 1 billion euros to the national budget.
Under the new plan, patients will not be required to pay their full deductible for a single medical procedure. Instead, a cap of 150 euros per treatment will be applied. However, this limit is scheduled to rise annually in line with the broader increases to the deductible based on wages and inflation.
