Customs officers seized more than 1,400 kilos of cocaine in the port of Rotterdam on Saturday. The drugs were spread across three containers in which irregularities had been detected, the Public Prosecution Service said.
The containers were inspected at the Maasvlakte terminal after arriving on a ship from Curaçao. In one container, bags containing a total of 32 kilos of cocaine were found. A second container held 177 kilos hidden in six suitcases. In the third container, 35 bags were discovered behind household goods, containing 1,199 packages of cocaine.
According to prosecutors, the intended recipients of the containers do not appear to be involved in the smuggling. The drugs have been destroyed.
