The municipality of Eindhoven is launching a dedicated English-language campaign to reach international residents ahead of the local elections in two weeks. As the region grows, an increasing number of non-Dutch citizens are eligible to vote, prompting the city to provide specific resources to help them navigate the process.
In Eindhoven, the information insert included with the polling card (stempas) and the back of the candidate list are provided in both Dutch and English. The city is also hosting an information fair at the public library and sending officials to international meetings to explain how local council voting works. Additional resources include an English-language voting guide and a dedicated English-language election debate by News Brainport. The election debate will be held on Friday, 13 March at 18:00 hrs at the City Hall.
These efforts come as local authorities try to improve voter participation. Turnout for municipal elections in the Netherlands is generally lower than for national elections, typically hovering around 50 per cent. In the previous local elections, Eindhoven saw a turnout of just under 42 per cent.
