Residents in the region who struggle with reading, numeracy, or digital skills will receive extra support over the coming years to help them move towards employment. The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science has allocated nearly €2 million from the National Growth Fund for this initiative.

The subsidy will go to the network organisation De Achthonderden, an initiative of the educational institution Summa College. The funding will be used to create development programmes that combine basic skills training with professional skills and personal coaching.

De Achthonderd has already run a successful pilot in Eindhoven and nearby areas over the past few years, helping around 800 people find work. With the new funding, the organisation plans to expand its reach to support up to 8,000 participants across the wider Brainport region.

The project will continue until January 2028 and is aimed at people in vulnerable positions on the labour market, offering them a practical route towards greater independence and employment opportunities.
