The Dutch singer Lenny Kuhr announced her retirement from the music industry on Instagram this Wednesday. In a heartfelt message, the artist explained that her decision was influenced by her husband, Rob’s, health and a growing sense of division in society.
Kuhr expressed deep gratitude for her long career and for the music that had guided her. She admitted to making the announcement with a heavy heart, noting that while she was thankful for the beauty she shared with her audience, the current social divisions had played a part in her decision to depart earlier than expected.
The 75-year-old singer will continue to perform her current theatre programme, Licht, until the season concludes in May. She stated that these final performances provide an opportunity for her, her musicians, Freek and Frans, and her husband, Rob, to say goodbye to their audience. For many years, Rob managed her bookings, prepared meals during tours, and managed the merchandise at her shows.
Kuhr rose to international fame in 1969 when she won the Eurovision Song Contest with her song De Troubadour. Kuhr is on the list of city poltical party EVE (Eindhoven voor elkaar ).
