Police continue to search for the car used by the shooter, who fled after injuring a police officer of Iranian origin. A police spokesperson said the team is following several leads. They also said they cannot confirm whether anyone has reported sightings of the Toyota Yaris that drove towards Lopik.
The investigation remains active. Officers still do not know why someone attacked the 36‑year‑old outside his home in Schoonhoven.
On Friday, police released images of the suspected getaway car. That evening, Minister of Justice and Security David van Weel told the television programme Café Kockelmann that the officer remains in critical condition.
Earlier, the VVD minister said the victim had spoken out against the Iranian regime. Because of the man’s Iranian background, the minister introduced extra security measures for other Iranian dissidents in the Netherlands.
