For Dutch winter sports enthusiasts, nothing beats the traditional charm of the Austrian Alps. According to recent ski travel research, Austria remains the undisputed favourite destination for Dutch skiers in the 2025–2026 season. In a survey of winter sports preferences, 81 per cent of Dutch skiers said they choose Austria as their favourite country for ski holidays, far ahead of Italy and France, which trail with significantly lower shares of the ski market. Within Austria, the Tirol region emerges as the most popular choice for its reliable snow conditions, vast interconnected slopes and vibrant mountain villages that appeal to families, groups of friends, and seasoned winter sports lovers alike.
Austria’s enduring popularity among Dutch travellers is rooted in several advantages. Tirol’s extensive ski networks, well-maintained pistes, and renowned après-ski culture create a complete winter holiday experience that appeals to skiers of all levels. Whether it is the challenge of long alpine runs or the cosy atmosphere of a traditional Alpine hut, Tirol consistently delivers the combination of adventure and relaxation that Dutch skiers seek.
In addition to Austria’s broad appeal, research based on search data shows that certain individual resorts and ski areas also draw exceptional interest from Dutch visitors. For example, German ski resort Winterberg, easily accessible for shorter trips, often ranks as one of the most searched specific ski areas among Dutch holiday-makers, especially for quick or weekend getaways.
While the French and Italian Alps remain popular in their own right and growing in interest for some travellers, the overarching trend for 2026 confirms Austria as the premier choice for Dutch and Brabant ski enthusiasts heading to the slopes.
