PSV fans of all ages celebrate league title under Eindhoven sun

The Hertogstraat became a preferred viewing point for families and older supporters as PSV celebrated their 27th league title with a traditional victory parade. Known for being less crowded than the central squares, the street offered a safe environment for parents and children to catch a glimpse of the players on the flatbed truck (platte kar).

Local residents gathered along the route in garden chairs, many dressed in the club’s red and white colours. For 12-year-old Noam, the number 27 held double significance, as his school teacher was also celebrating a 27th birthday. Like many young fans present, Noam identified Ismael Saibari as his favourite player, while five-year-old Siem struggled to choose between Guus Til, Saibari, and Ricardo Pepi.

The atmosphere was aided by local businesses and volunteers. Solange Roomans of the design agency Pong Creative distributed thousands of free signs to supporters, describing the gesture as an act of love for the club rather than a marketing exercise. Other fans, such as Michiel Mattheijssen, noted the importance of enjoying these successful seasons while they last.

While the mood was festive, some long-term supporters remained analytical. One fan, Bas, praised the team’s historic performance but suggested that the defence must improve, while expressing high admiration for the veteran player Ivan Perisic.

As the parade approached, the Supporters’ Association handed out captain’s armbands marked with the number 27. The quiet of the Hertogstraat was eventually met with the sound of heavy fireworks from the nearby Stadhuisplein. After the vehicles passed, many families headed home, leaving the more intense celebrations to the thousands of fans gathered in the city centre.
