Rail works to disrupt Dutch train services

Share

The Dutch national railway company, NS, reports that passengers should prepare for crowded trains and longer journeys due to extensive engineering works starting this weekend. The operator warns that maintenance projects across multiple routes may affect the national timetable. Trains will stop running entirely on certain lines, and the NS advises travellers to check their journey details shortly before they depart.

Services between Utrecht Central and Amsterdam Central will be reduced for one week starting Friday evening. Similar disruptions will affect routes between Utrecht Central and both Schiphol Airport and Arnhem Central. During the weekend of 21 and 22 February, buses will replace all trains between Ede-Wageningen and Arnhem.

ProRail plans to work on the tracks at Utrecht Central Station next weekend. No sprinter (stoptrein) services will run between Utrecht Central and Utrecht Overvecht during this period. The NS suggests that passengers travelling to or from Overvecht should detour via Bilthoven for the best connection.

Further disruptions to local services will continue throughout next week. Between Monday 23 February and the evening of Thursday 26 February, buses will replace local trains between Utrecht Central and Maarssen. Additionally, replacement buses will serve the route between Utrecht Central and Bunnik from Monday to Friday that week.

ProRail previously confirmed that no trains will run between Alkmaar and Uitgeest from Saturday, 21 February to Friday, 27 February. The railway infrastructure manager is carrying out essential maintenance in the area, and the NS will provide replacement buses between the two towns in North Holland.
