Since 2010, the Theatre of the Year Prize has been awarded during Het Grote VVTP Theatre Event at the end of January. VVTP members assess theatres throughout the Netherlands on publicity, finance and technology, among other things, as well as on hospitality, commitment and love for the theatre profession. Professionalism and passion are central to this.
According to the jury, the theatre is widely recognised by both audiences and producers, with consistently strong attendance and performances that leave a lasting impression. Its broad and well-balanced program, suited to a major city like Eindhoven, successfully combines high-quality artistic productions with popular audience favourites. Visitors are offered a rich and diverse range of performances that reflect multiple cultures and perspectives. Thanks to its state-of-the-art technical facilities, the theatre can host nearly all national and international productions. The award is a shared achievement of the entire community, staff, volunteers, and audiences alike.
