Tongelreep swimming complex to open in March

Share

The new Tongelreep National Swimming Centre will officially open its doors on Friday, 13 March. While the 50-metre sports pool, 25-metre pool, and teaching pool have been in use since November 2024, the final phase is now complete. This includes the recreational pool, entrance hall, cafe facilities, and the outdoor forecourt.

With the addition of 2,000 square metres of swimming space alongside the existing Pieter van den Hoogenband Swimming Stadium, Tongelreep is now one of the largest indoor swimming facilities in the world. The centre provides for everyone from families and casual swimmers to amateur and elite athletes.

Alderperson Remco van Dooren, who is responsible for sports, noted that while clubs and swimming lessons are already underway, the new facilities bring back the element of fun. He highlighted the toddler area and the larger slides as major milestones for Eindhoven and the wider region.

The opening weekend will run from 13 to 15 March. Following an event for invited guests on Friday, the general public can access the recreational pool from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Local sports clubs will also showcase their activities throughout the weekend. Organisers have planned further events in the run-up to the summer, including tours and a four-day swimming challenge.

Two of the three large slides will be ready for the opening. An outdoor spray park and sunbathing area are also scheduled to open before the summer holidays begin.
