KLM has examined four potential scenarios for what the airline could look like in 2030, acknowledging in a new internal report that the company is currently “in troubled waters”. The scenarios are not predictions or concrete plans, the airline stresses, but they illustrate the range of outcomes KLM may face if it does—or does not—take decisive action.
Possible options include Air France‑KLM stepping in to take tighter control, KLM’s own management asserting greater autonomy, divesting business units, or implementing significant job reductions.
CEO Marjan Rintel writes in the foreword that the strongest message of the report is urgency. “Waiting is not an option. Delay has consequences”, she emphasises, underscoring the need for strategic clarity as the airline confronts rising costs, political scrutiny, and intensifying global competition.
