ZANDVOORT (ANP) – On Saturday morning, between 7:00 and 9:00 AM, more than 17,000 racing fans had already taken the train to Zandvoort, reports NS. The last Dutch Grand Prix for the time being is taking place there this weekend. NS is operating a special timetable with a train every five minutes between Amsterdam Central and Zandvoort.

The sprint race takes place at the circuit as early as 12:00 PM on Saturday. According to an NS spokesperson, this is clearly reflected in the number of early travellers. NS transported more than twice as many passengers as last year on the Saturday morning of the race weekend.

The first extra trains departed at 8:00 AM from Amsterdam Central via Haarlem to Zandvoort. From the south and east, five extra trains ran towards Amsterdam between 5:00 and 6:00 AM. NS urged travellers to leave early for this day: travellers arriving at Zandvoort station before 9:00 AM received a 50 percent discount.
