Albert Heijn restores deliveries after cybersecurity incident

Albert Heijn has fully resumed deliveries of fresh and non-perishable products to stores across the Netherlands after a cybersecurity incident that disrupted operations earlier this week.

Local variation

The supermarket chain says stock levels are improving, although product availability may still vary by location. On Thursday morning, some stores continued to report empty shelves, particularly in fresh food sections. Albert Heijn expects availability to increase throughout the day and gradually return to normal.

Services

While store deliveries have restarted, several services remain affected. Online ordering is still unavailable, the company’s website remains offline, and customers still can’t reach customer service. Personal discounts and savings promotions are also temporarily unavailable, although customers will retain their accumulated loyalty stamp balances.

Earlier this week, Albert Heijn had already restarted deliveries of fresh products after restoring supplies of non-perishable goods.

Investigation

The investigation into the cybersecurity incident is ongoing. Dutch police said on Wednesday evening that no criminal investigation has been launched at this stage and invited parent company Ahold Delhaize to file an official complaint.

Neither Ahold Delhaize nor Albert Heijn had responded to questions about the police invitation at the time of writing.
