Bijenkorf confirms customer data leak after cyberattack

Share

Hackers gained access to the personal data of Bijenkorf customers during the cyberattack on logistics company CEVA Logistics. The leaked information includes names, addresses, and telephone numbers of customers who placed online orders. Because CEVA handles online orders for Bijenkorf, the retailer previously said it was not yet clear whether its customer data had been affected.

“Based on CEVA’s findings, we can confirm that the system containing our customers’ personal data was accessed by unauthorised persons. Customers should assume their personal data is involved in the incident”.

Risks

Bijenkorf has not disclosed how many customers were affected. The company emphasises that financial data, such as bank account numbers and passwords, were not part of the leak. Other CEVA partners, including bol and Ajax, were also impacted. The retailer warns customers about an increased risk of phishing via email or phone. “We advise customers to be extra alert to suspicious messages that appear to come from Bijenkorf. If in doubt, they can contact us directly”.

Disruptions

The incident had already caused delays in product delivery. The retailer also experienced problems processing orders, returns, and refunds. At one point, delivery times in the webshop stretched to nearly a month. Bijenkorf says the webshop is now fully available again.
