It is not yet known on which day bus and train drivers will strike next week, as trade unions FNV and CNV have chosen not to announce the next date until early next week. Regional transport staff staged their first walkout on Wednesday after negotiations over a new collective labour agreement broke down, with union leaders pledging to hold a one-day strike every week until Christmas.
The decision to delay revealing specific strike days is a deliberate tactic by the unions to prevent employers from altering shift patterns at short notice to bring in non-striking staff, though they remain legally required to give at least 48 hours’ notice. Union representatives claimed Wednesday’s action received widespread support, leaving a large number of regional bus services cancelled, while employers’ association VWOV reported that around half of the workforce participated in the strike.
