Dutch cruise ship Hondius arrives at Rotterdam

Share

The Dutch cruise ship m/v Hondius is entering the port of Rotterdam. It arrived at around 10:00 AM and will reach its berth at Calandsteiger 7 in under half an hour, according to the Port Authority.

Twenty‑seven people remain on board. They include 25 crew members, a doctor, and a nurse. Part of the crew will enter quarantine in the port. The Port Authority says none of them currently show symptoms of the hantavirus.

The Port Authority has placed 23 portable cabins in the port for the crew. They will stay there until 18 June. Some crew members will remain on the ship, as required. Each cabin contains a kitchenette, shower, sofa, and bed. The quarantine area is shielded from the outside world and sits about 8 kilometres from the nearest inhabited area, the spokesperson said.

Last week, almost everyone on board disembarked at the port of Tenerife. They later left the island on evacuation flights.

The virus has claimed three lives, including two Dutch nationals. Several others became infected.
