Employees can lease a second bicycle with a lower tax addition

Share

Employees can now lease more than one bicycle at the same reduced tax addition rate after the Tax and Customs Administration changed its rules. The update follows reports from leasing company Lease a Bike and makes a second company bicycle more affordable.

Under the bicycle plan, employees pay a 7 percent tax addition rate on a leased bicycle. Lease a Bike said the rate for a second bicycle could previously rise to 100 percent. The Tax and Customs Administration has now aligned the rules so that both bicycles fall under the 7 percent rate.

“This makes the arrangement align better with practice. Not one bike for every ride, but the option to use a second bike for a different situation, for example,” said Anouk Hiensch, Director of Lease a Bike.

The second bicycle must meet the same conditions as the first and must serve a business purpose. A racing bike used only at weekends does not qualify, a spokesperson for the Tax and Customs Administration said.
