EU finalises strategic roadmap to boost economic competitiveness

Share

The European Union countries, the European Commission, and the European Parliament signed a new roadmap on Friday to strengthen the internal market. The goal is to speed up the process of simplifying trade rules, which leaders hope will make Europe more competitive on the global stage.

The plan sets out a clear timeline for the Commission to submit new laws between now and the end of 2027. These proposals are designed to make trading between the 27 member states much easier. In return, the Parliament and member states have promised to review and approve these changes as quickly as possible.

One key project in the roadmap is “EU Inc.”, a proposal intended to help businesses operate across the entire union without facing so much red tape. According to the agreed schedule, this specific plan must be signed off by both the member states and the European Parliament before the end of this year.

The timeline also addresses the high cost of living and production by including proposals to lower energy prices. Many of these measures are fast-tracked, with the aim of getting official approval from EU institutions by the end of this year or early next year.
