Belgian-Dutch rail company European Sleeper has announced plans to launch a night train service connecting Brussels and Amsterdam to Copenhagen and Malmö starting in April 2028. The initiative will restore a direct rail link between the Benelux region and Scandinavia after a multi-year absence.
Expanding European rail network
European Sleeper has successfully launched several international sleeper routes in recent years, including services connecting the Netherlands to Berlin and Prague. Co-founder Chris Engelsman noted that Scandinavia represents a logical next step for their rapidly expanding network. The operator is concurrently developing a Brussels-to-Barcelona connection targeted for a 2028 launch.
Partnering for Northern expansion
The firm is partnering with German railway company RDC to launch the Scandinavian service. While exact timetables remain subject to ongoing negotiations, current plans propose evening departures around 7:00 PM, arriving at the final destination in Malmö at approximately 10:00 AM the following morning.
