Electric vehicle charging operator Fastned is stepping up the pace of its European expansion, with 65 new charging stations currently under construction. This number has nearly doubled compared to a year ago.
Outlook
The company says the outlook for public fast charging is improving as electric vehicles become more affordable. A growing supply of EVs and falling battery costs are helping lower purchase prices, while persistently high fuel prices continue to encourage motorists to switch to electric driving.
During the past quarter, Fastned opened 17 new stations, bringing its European network to 451 locations. The company maintains leading positions in the Netherlands and Belgium and expanded further in countries including Germany and France. Fastned now operates in nine European countries and expects to have between 476 and 506 stations by year-end.
Strong growth
Demand for Fastned’s charging services continued to rise during the quarter. The number of charging sessions increased 39% to 2.3 million, while revenue from vehicle charging climbed 63% to €51.3 million.
Gross profit reached €37 million, marking a 44% increase compared with the same period last year.
The final quarter of the year is traditionally one of Fastned’s strongest periods, as colder weather reduces vehicle efficiency and increases the need for more frequent charging stops.
