Fire department busy extinguishing Venray wildfire all week

The fire department expects to spend the entire week extinguishing the fire in the Boschhuizerbergen nature reserve, east of Venray. A spokesperson for the Limburg‑Noord Safety Region says crews are monitoring several smouldering spots and will step in immediately if new flames appear.

Firefighters keep the stop lines wet to stop the fire from spreading.

The safety region has not yet decided whether it will launch a major investigation into the cause. The spokesperson says the team must first finish extinguishing the remaining embers. They also note that the cause will likely remain unknown.
