Four aviation personnel tested positive during an alcohol check at Schiphol. The police and the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee conducted the check. A breathalyser test showed that the four crew members had a blood alcohol level too high to continue their duties.
In total, 707 alcohol checks were conducted among cabin and cockpit crew over three hours. One pilot had alcohol in his blood, but this was below the legal limit of 0.2 per mille. Flight crew are not permitted to drink alcohol ten hours before a flight. The upper limit for flying is zero. Therefore, it was decided to impose a one-hour flight ban on the pilot.
Three cabin crew members were found to have a blood alcohol level above the legal limit. Two of them have agreed to a settlement proposal. A third is exercising their right to a counter-examination.
