High traffic on the NS website due to the cheap train subscription

High interest in a new NS subscription is causing heavy traffic on the rail operator’s website, NS told ANP. The discount pass lets people travel unlimitedly during off‑peak hours for 49 euros per month. The cabinet introduced the measure at the request of parties including GroenLinks‑PvdA, following rising energy prices linked to the Iran war.

The large number of visitors often freezes the NS website. Mijn NS also becomes inaccessible at times.

The monthly subscription is available from Monday and remains on sale until 31 August at the latest.
