Between two and three hundred people gathered on Dam Square in Amsterdam on Sunday afternoon to protest against the war in Iran. The country has faced attacks by Israel and the United States since the end of last month. The protest was organised by the International Foundation for Iranian Women, representing supporters of Maryam Rajavi, the chairwoman of the National Council of the Iranian Resistance.
Call for democracy and regime change
Participants waved flags and shouted the slogan “no shah no mullah”. The atmosphere remained calm as police supervised the event. The organisers are opposed to the current ruling regime of Ayatollah Khamenei and also reject Reza Pahlavi, the son of the former Shah, as a potential leader if the Islamic regime falls. One organiser explained that they seek a true democracy, noting that their own family had suffered under both the previous and current systems.
Mixed groups and political symbols
While the majority of the crowd focused on Iranian resistance, a few protesters waved Israeli flags and were kept separate from the main group. Kurdish flags were also visible, reflecting Maryam Rajavi’s support for an independent Kurdistan. The protesters emphasised that the Iranian people are the primary victims of the ongoing conflict and called for international support for their resistance.
