Rapid expansion triggers major response
A forest fire broke out in a wooded area near Bergeijk in Noord-Brabant. Local emergency services declared a high-level fire alert as dry conditions caused flames to spread rapidly.
The blaze initially covered an area of approximately 50 by 50 metres, but dry underbrush caused the fire to expand quickly across the woodland. Emergency services deployed roughly fourteen firefighting vehicles to the scene. Accessible forest tracks allowed heavy vehicles to reach the fire line directly.
Severe drought heightens wildfire risk
Extreme dry weather across the region created hazardous conditions for local emergency crews. Safety officials emphasized that prolonged heat turns undergrowth into immediate fuel. A spokesperson for the safety region warned that every single square metre becomes a source that can lead to a major fire during such droughts.
The affected forest sits on the municipal border between Bergeijk and Valkenswaard, close to the Belgian border. The location remains isolated, with very few buildings in the immediate vicinity. Firefighters continue working to surround the perimeter and prevent further spread into neighbouring timberland.
