The risk of wildfires is rising in more and more areas. The fire service has now issued a phase 2 alert for fifteen regions, the highest warning level. This information is published on the fire service website.
In recent days, the number of regions at phase 2 has expanded by at least five. Only the north-east, Zeeland, the south of South Holland and Limburg remain at phase 1. Information for the Amsterdam-Amstelland and Zaanstreek-Waterland regions is not available.
Phase 2 means there is a greater risk of wildfires because nature has been dry for a longer period. Strong winds can cause fires to spread quickly and unpredictably during dry spells. Landowners, nature managers and emergency services are keeping a close watch. In phase 1, no additional measures are taken.
The fire service stresses the importance of being cautious and avoiding actions that could start a fire, such as discarding cigarettes or barbecue coals.
