More than 100,000 people have bought the NS summer train pass

THE HAGUE (ANP) – Around 105,000 people have purchased the cheaper summer train subscription so far. State Secretary Annet Bertram (CDA) for Infrastructure and Water Management reported this on the programme ‘Dit is de Dag’ on NPO Radio 1.

On Monday, NS and other train operators launched a subscription that allows travellers to travel unlimitedly during off-peak hours in the summer for 49 euros per month. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management has made 118 million euros available to fund the discount. According to NS, that budget is sufficient for 500,000 subscriptions per month.

Interest on the first day was so great that problems arose with the website. On the second day, NS experienced login problems due to an IT outage, presumably also caused by the high volume of traffic.

State Secretary Bertram is pleased with the number of subscriptions taken out. “That is really a lot. It is a unique experiment, and we are happy with the outcome.”
