The National Monument on Dam Square in Amsterdam was vandalised with graffiti on Sunday morning. Messages including “Stop the human traffic” and “Time to wake up!” were sprayed in blue paint on the monument. Police were present at the scene, and the area was cordoned off.
Alongside the blue slogans, a blue death symbol and a message in yellow paint were also sprayed onto the monument.
The monument has been targeted before. Last August, a man sprayed the words “Never Again is Now” in red paint during a pro-Palestinian demonstration. He was later convicted of damaging the monument and ordered to pay the cost of removing the paint.
The monument was also vandalised on 4 May, when red paint and the word “genocide” were sprayed onto the memorial.
