New laundry service for reusable cups by Ergon and CupXchange

Share

A new facility has opened in Eindhoven to wash reusable cups for offices and events. This project is a partnership between the company CupXchange and the social enterprise Ergon. It focuses on being both eco-friendly and social by providing jobs for people who need extra support in the workplace. Currently, four employees from Ergon work at the site, and there is room for more staff as the project grows. This initiative helps businesses comply with new laws banning single-use plastic cups.

A positive impact on the city

The facility was officially opened on 12 March 2026 by Eindhoven alderperson (wethouder) Saskia Lammers. CupXchange founder Chong Hu described the project as a “win-win-win” because it reduces waste while creating valuable jobs. Ergon’s operational director, Stef Visser, said the partnership is an ideal mix of product knowledge and people-focused guidance. Even the staff are enthusiastic; employee Henry explained that while the job is fun, it requires a lot of focus to ensure every cup is perfectly clean.

Expansion plans for the Brainport region in 2026

Throughout 2026, the service aims to expand across the Brainport region. As more companies move away from disposable plastics, the facility expects to handle more work and create further employment opportunities. The goal for the coming year is to help local businesses meet environmental goals while supporting the local community. Organisations interested in switching to reusable cups can now contact CupXchange for more information.
