Dutch Railways (NS) has confirmed that it will notify travellers when the promotional period for the discounted summer subscription is nearing its end. The reminder is intended to help passengers avoid unintentionally rolling over into a more expensive subscription.
The introduction of the reminder follows earlier discussions between State Secretary Annet Bertram (Infrastructure and Water Management) and NS. This week, NS and other train operators launched a special summer subscription that allows travellers to make unlimited off‑peak journeys for up to two months at €49 per month. NS also stated that it will take a “lenient” approach toward travellers who cancel slightly after the deadline.
When the promotion ends, the summer ticket automatically converts into a regular flex subscription, which is considerably more expensive. To support the discount scheme, Bertram’s ministry has allocated €118 million in funding.
Earlier in the week, NS faced login issues due to the high demand for the cheaper subscription.
