Parking areas at beaches along the coast and at recreational lakes were filling up on Monday afternoon, as many people had the day off for Whit Monday.
The municipality of Zandvoort warned early in the afternoon that most parking spaces were already taken. It urged visitors to travel by public transport, bicycle, or shared scooter. “There is always room on the beach,” the municipality said.
At Henschotermeer, near Woudenberg in the province of Utrecht, parking tickets were sold out. “We would like to urge people not to come by car without a reservation,” the site’s manager said.
According to the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI), temperatures were expected to reach up to 29 degrees on Monday. The weather institute also forecasts tropical temperatures in many areas on Tuesday.
