The Philips Stadium has been the heart of PSV for more than 110 years, serving as a landmark where the club and the city have grown together. A planned expansion aims to address the region’s rapid growth while making the stadium more accessible to new generations of supporters.
The project focuses on creating a future-proof stadium in the city centre. As an iconic home that complements the atmosphere of Philips Village (Philipsdorp), the stadium serves as a unique link between the city centre and the Strijp-S district. Beyond hosting football matches, the venue contributes to the city’s vibrancy by providing social facilities and space for a range of events.
Research conducted in early 2024 mapped visitor potential up to 2030, and recent studies have extended this outlook to 2040. Market research from specialist agencies indicates a sustainable demand for 55,000 to 60,000 spectators per match. While the exact scale of the expansion is not yet finalised, it will depend on the chosen roof structure and the balance between regular seating and business spaces.
The stadium’s capacity is expected to increase from its current 35,000 to between 52,000 and 58,500 places. For safety reasons, a permit will be requested for an expansion of up to 25,000 additional seats. The renovation is scheduled for completion in 2030, and PSV will continue to play its home matches at the stadium during the work.
