Rijkswaterstaat has warned road users to be alert for dangerous conditions and possible long traffic jams during the evening rush hour on Tuesday, due to expected poor weather. The KNMI has issued a yellow alert for almost the entire country.
According to the road authority, thunderstorms are expected to move across the Netherlands on Tuesday afternoon. These may bring hail, strong gusts of wind and heavy rainfall, which could affect the evening commute. Large amounts of rain may fall in a short period, increasing the risk of flooding. Road users are advised to prepare for hazardous driving conditions and traffic congestion that could worsen quickly.
The showers are moving from the southwest to the northeast. The KNMI said the storms could become heavier as they move further north. Disruption is expected to continue until late afternoon in the southwest and until around 8:00 pm in the northern provinces.
