Two evacuation flights will depart from Tenerife to Eindhoven on Monday, the Dutch ambassador to Spain has confirmed. Earlier, it seemed only one flight carrying passengers from the cruise ship Hondius would leave. The Andean variant of the hantavirus broke out on the Dutch vessel.
The first flight will carry 22 people who worked on the ship. They are crew members of six nationalities, including one Dutch national. A second flight, organised by Australia, will then depart for Eindhoven with six people on board. They include Australians, a New Zealander, and a Brit. They will travel on to Australia after arriving in the Netherlands.
Passengers’ luggage will remain on the ship. The body of the German woman who died also remains on board. The Hondius will sail to Rotterdam, where it will be disinfected.
On Sunday, a plane carrying 26 people landed in Eindhoven.
