Unions FNV, CNV and VCP have given the cabinet two weeks to scrap planned cuts to social security. They warn that strikes could begin on 30 May if the plans stay in place. The unions say the cabinet has shown no willingness to compromise.

Although the party claims it wants to protect the vulnerable, it has not explained how reduced funding will improve a struggling assessment system. Opposition parties have condemned the move as a direct financial attack on citizens who cannot work.
